Populism, totalitarianism, hysteria: the three lessons of a pandemic that the world must learn

Artificially warming up the size and danger of the coronavirus pandemic, mankind has significantly complicated life for itself.
Сюжет
Pandemic

The Ukrainian journalist Yevgeny Ihelzon summed up the peculiar results of the pandemic in his blog, naming the three phenomena that can be clearly observed during the pandemic with the naked eye:

“Someone needs to wear special glasses, but any person with a primitive higher education and a little life experience must have noticed it.

Covid-populism

The leaders of countries where there is little infection and the pandemic did not take place, are sure to run to the podium to put on the winner's laurel wreath. Look, we did it, vote for us again. It does not matter at all that the country is an island with closed borders, or no one conducts tests, or it happened by chance. It is almost obvious that the same measures in different places led to different results, since this is a respiratory disease, the spread of which depends on many factors that can only be taken into account with the help of a supercomputer, which is doing something more interesting at that time.

Even Zelensky tried to pull the crown of the winner and champion, but he was hindered by the increase in test research in Ukraine. Otherwise, the "servants of the people" would have already declared victory over an invisible enemy. By chance it turned out that in March-May in Ukraine the virus was not widespread enough, it could even have carried. But it did not work out, and some countries succeeded, with the same level of madness and irresponsibility as Cambodia, or failed, like Iran.

Covid-totalitarianism

I do not know if you know that a wide range of information about coronavirus is inaccessible to citizens of a large number of countries. For example, in Malaysia, people know nothing but the general line of the party. Most still believe that swimming in the sea is a source of infection, as well as walking in the park and forest. The government so intimidated citizens that they were still afraid for a month to leave home after quarantine was lifted. We still see one driver riding in a masked car.

The same thing in Singapore, it would seem one of the most developed countries, people believe that 12 cases a day is a disaster and everyone should immediately be at home again.

The idea came from somewhere in Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand that zero infections can be achieved. This is probably possible, and in 30 years we will again open these countries, which will be closed from external influences.

However, the idea of zero in countries that have virtually escaped the epidemic is very popular. They don’t want to open borders, 51% of Malaysian people don’t want to remove 14-day quarantine for Singaporeans, according to a survey. That is why the border is still not open. And before it was crossed by tens of thousands of citizens a day.

The same thing in Vietnam, Thailand - people are deprived of information about the disease, perceive it as unconditionally fatal. Although the studies that are being carried out here show that 80-86% carry coronavirus asymptomatically.

Thailand's tourism income is $ 12 billion a year, all of which will definitely be lost due to the insane policies of the ruling party in the country. There is, of course, time to correct, but the signals from Southeast Asia are very contradictory.

There will be no income, there will be poverty - in Thailand, the Philippines, and Cambodia.

In different countries the situations are different, but in general in the region people are scared much more than they should. Governments, consisting mainly of wealthy people, can do anything while their borders are closed. From fear, everyone here is ready to go in formation.

The situation in Southeast Asia is not at all the same as in Europe, where discussions are resolved and the situation normalizes on the principle that there is a virus, but life does not stop either. Despite the constant hairpin from the WHO, I think that the European approach will prevail and it is more sober

Covid-media

From the outset of the pandemic, the press realized that texts and videos about coronavirus cause a lot of clicks.

And then it began. Almost no one could resist reporting with suffocating people, coffins, corpses in bags, refrigerators with the dead. In the wake of hype, thousands of fakes spread throughout the world, which instilled fear and anxiety into global civilization. It reminded me of the movie "Joker", where each frame is designed to arouse sympathy and soften. According to this principle, an attack on the minds was carried out. Politics got sick! Died so-and-so! Sick Tom Hanks. In children, Kawasaki syndrome. Everyone who has been ill is not healthy for life. Wash fruits with alcohol, and asphalt with shampoo.

Sometimes it seemed that there was a conspiracy behind all this. But most likely not. Behind this are cliques, a modern form of paper circulation of the past. The worship of the client, without understanding the consequences, caused an unprecedented economic crisis, when all of humanity fell from a virus with a mortality rate of 0.1-0.3% (data from serological studies in the most affected regions). I must say that in no country, for half a year, the number of officially infected has not exceeded 1% of the population. This statistics is approximate, if it hurt more, then mortality is even lower.

The BBC still somehow kept a balance with reports on 100-year-old people who recovered.

In Ukraine, the coverage of the coronavirus crisis was and remains extremely alarmist, totalitarian and uncompromising. According to media reports, people only become infected, die and rarely recover. All news about the number of cases in the world are marked in bold. Type: already 10,000,000 people got sick! This despite the fact that 6,000,000 has already recovered, but this is not in the text.

All Ukrainian publications are strongly conservative and speak in unison, constantly stirring up hysteria, especially New Time, Ukrpravda. Experts, sociologists who calmly explain the figures, do not fall on the front pages, content only with blogs and columns. Perhaps this is not malicious intent, just the lack of anxiety in the text does not give the necessary number of clicks.

There is another dependency, not obvious. The more anxiety, the more the economy suffers, the less the advertiser spends in the press. Thus, the press devours itself, just the consequences of covidistry are still drawn out in time.

I still can’t understand why to give individual news throughout the country, how many beds are occupied in Poltava, and so on in each region.

The press, which is independent in its judgments about politics and economics, in the materials about the coronavirus, oppresses the hysterical line, which is represented by the head of the Ministry of Health and the chief medical doctor. Why, to the end it is not clear.

Nothing prevents us from returning to the normal course of things, in May there were attempts, but now everything is again falling into hysterical tones.

A big plus is that Ukrainians do not fully trust the press, otherwise there would be an increase in suicides..."
