Almost two-thirds of all cases under the article on discrediting the Russian Armed Forces were opened for posts on the VKontakte network.

Curious statistics are kept in her blog by sociologist and anthropologist Alexandra Arkhipova. With the help of a group of volunteers, she compiled a table from which it becomes clear for publications in which social networks they are persecuted for statements falling under Article of the Code of Administrative Offenses (CAO) No. 20.3.3. (Public actions aimed at discrediting the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in order to protect the interests of the Russian Federation and its citizens, maintain international peace and security, or exercise their powers by state bodies of the Russian Federation for these purposes.).

The first column indicates the total number of cases initiated for publication in VK, for example, the second column is the same number, but as a percentage of the total number of known "network crimes" under Article 20.3

As can be seen from this table, the gap between VKontakte (almost 60%) and another popular Russian social network Odnoklassniki (almost 6%) is gigantic - 10 times! This means that the Russian intelligence services monitor the VKontakte network (anti-war statements are automatically detected), while messages on WhatsApp * become part of the criminal case, mainly due to denunciations, since user data on this network is securely encrypted.

The table takes into account all cases when experts know exactly where a person wrote sedition (in 200 cases, these data are irretrievably blacked out). In total, according to their data, "network crimes " make up 26% of the total number of cases initiated under Article 20.3.3.

After the blocking of foreign social networks that occurred in mid-March: VKontakte - 50.5 million, Telegram - 45.5, - 34.2, Facebook * - 33.4, Odnoklassniki - 21 million.

Arkhipova writes about this: “It could be assumed that the scale of repression is connected simply with the size of the audience, but if this hypothesis were correct, then in Odnoklassniki they would not be detained 10 times less than in VK, but only a little more than 2 times. And there would be almost no gap between Instagram and VK ... "

Meanwhile, the basis for disclosing the data of the authors of illegal statements is carried out at the request of law enforcement agencies in accordance with the user agreement signed by the blogger. True, the agreement does not specify what kind of bodies these are and what exactly the requirements are. It is quite possible that this is just a letter from the head of some supervisory agency, for which the data may be open.

The user agreement of the VKontakte social network states: “The information provided by the User can be disclosed only in accordance with the current legislation of the Russian Federation at the request of the court, law enforcement agencies, as well as in other cases provided for by the legislation of the Russian Federation. Since the Site Administration processes the User's personal data in order to comply with these Rules, by virtue of the provisions of the legislation on personal data, the User's consent to the processing of his personal data is not required ... "

*The activities of the social networks Instagram and Facebook in Russia are recognized as extremist and banned
