Ministry of Labor: the number of unemployed in Russia will increase to 5.3 million people

The head of the Ministry of Labor Anton Kotyakov said that official unemployment has more than doubled since mid-April and reached 1.6 million people.

According to the head of the department, the registered unemployment rate in Russia can rise to 2.5 million people, and the unemployment rate according to the International Labor Organization (ILO) methodology can rise to 5.3 million people.

This figure is quite small for Russia, Kotyakov said on Channel One - in other countries, the unemployment rate is much higher.

The minister noted that the April increase in official unemployment is not at all connected with the actual increase in unemployment - in his opinion, the indicator grew because many simply decided to register, since the procedure for receiving benefits was simplified and its size increased.

To date, 45-50% of the registered unemployed have not worked for at least a year before contacting the employment service, Kotyakov specified.

Recall that in Russia unemployment is considered by two methods. The total number of citizens who are registered with the employment service is calculated - this is official unemployment. The ILO methodology calculates the number of actual unemployed.

Note that in early May it was said that since March, more than 200 thousand Russians have lost their jobs. Moreover, in March the growth of unemployment amounted to 4.7% of the working population.

Everyone who has lost his job after March 1 is paid an allowance of 12.1 thousand rubles and another three thousand for each child. About 63 thousand Russians who have lost their jobs have minor children.
