The international environmental organization Greenpeace estimated the environmental damage caused to water bodies as a result of the spill of more than 20 thousand tons of oil products near Norilsk, at 6 billion rubles.

“This is without taking into account soil damage and emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere”, - environmentalists said.

Greenpeace Russia’s project director Vladimir Chupurov noted that oil-spill booms will help to collect only a small fraction of the pollution.

“Therefore, it can be argued that almost all diesel fuel will remain in the environment”, - the ecologist said.

Note that according to the head of Rosprirodnadzor Svetlana Radionova, the maximum permissible concentration of harmful substances in water bodies of Norilsk after the accident at the CHPP was exceeded tens of thousands of times. The thickness of the layer of oil products amounted to 20 cm.

Recall that after the environmental disaster, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an emergency mode. The head of state was indignant that the leadership of the CHPP-3, where the leak occurred, did not report the incident in a timely manner.

The President instructed the head of the Ministry of Emergencies, Yevgeny Zinichev, to liquidate the consequences of the oil spill as soon as possible. Today, Zinichev announced that the department has already found a way to cope with the task.
