The head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin instructed the central apparatus of the Investigation Committee to study the circumstances of the criminal case against two doctors from Kaliningrad, who are accused of intentionally killing a newborn child in 2018.

This was reported on the website of the department.

The report notes that investigators should conduct an audit against neonatologist Elina Sushkevich and acting chief physician of the maternity hospital Elena Belaya (pictured), "without interfering with the competence of the court".

The order of the chairman of the IC was given after an appeal on June 12 by the director of the Research Institute of Emergency Pediatric Surgery and Traumatology Leonid Roshal to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin with a request to pay attention to the case of Kaliningrad doctors.

According to Leonid Roshal, he spoke on behalf of the medical community to pay special attention to the situation, "when two doctors are tried for murder", emphasizing that "this has not happened in Russia since 1953".

This is a resonant case of the death of a premature newborn in 2018. The baby, born on November 6, needed the Kurosoyt drug for survival, which reduces the complication of respiratory diseases. It costs 24 thousand rubles and is not scarce. However, the acting Elena Belaya, the chief doctor, forbade giving the drug to the baby, explaining her decision with the high cost of the medicine. When the child died, she demanded that her subordinates fake the notes, presenting the case as if the baby was already dead. According to investigators, the doctor decided to "kill the newborn". To do this, she agreed with the neonatologist Elina Sushkevich, now accused of murdering a minor group of people by prior conspiracy. Both doctors are under the home arrest.

The formation of the jury in a closed court session will be continued on July 2.
