A criminal case has been opened against unidentified employees of Nornickel and JSC Mechanobringineering on the fact of discharge of untreated sewage from the Talnakh enrichment plant into the Tomuli river. The damage amounted to 154 million rubles.

The case was brought under the article on violation of environmental protection rules.

According to the investigation, from June 2017 to the last July, the suspects, while being responsible for observing the environmental protection rules, made a number of violations in the design and construction of the waste disposal facility from the factory. As a result, untreated water in the area of the Oktyabrsky mine fell into the river and soil.

According to Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage (Rosprirodnadzor), the costs that will have to be incurred to restore environmental damage will be at least 154 million rubles.

Let us recall that the director of the Norilsk CHPP-3 Pavel Smirnov and his deputy Yuri Kuznetsov in the case of a spill of oil products near Norilsk were recently detained. The head of the Polar Division of Nornickel Nikolai Utkin called the detention an unjustifiably brutal measure.
