The Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia Directorate for the Moscow Region quarantined all pre-trial detention centers and colonies, although earlier, at the peak of the spread of coronavirus infection, it was limited only to the “special conditions regimen”.

The prison department reports a stable situation that is under control, without disclosing the reasons for the measures taken.

This was reported by Kommersant, according to which the total number of cases in the pre-trial detention centers and colonies in the Moscow Region can reach 60 people. Meanwhile, the department’s department says that there is no talk of an outbreak of coronavirus infection, and in June not a single case was detected.

As explained by the publication in the regional Federal Penitentiary Service, there is nothing extraordinary in introducing quarantine. After the end of the “special conditions regime” on June 16, it was introduced in accordance with applicable law and the decree of the chief medical officer of the prison department.

For several months now, the Moscow pre-trial detention center has continued to operate a quarantine regime with a ban on the removal of prisoners for judicial investigative actions, visits and receiving transmissions. It was extended until the beginning of July, and in the suburbs it will last until the "special order".

As a member of the Moscow Public Monitoring Commission Yeva Merkachyova said at the end of May, in the Moscow pre-trial detention center No. 1 - “Sailor Silence”, at least six prisoners got coronavirus. It was reported that five of them were hospitalized, and one at that time recovered. At the same time, according to her, the number of prisoners infected with the coronavirus can be much larger and number in the tens. The representative of the PMC became aware of this from relatives of those under investigation and convicts.

At the end of April, the FSIN press bureau reported that 40 people with coronavirus infection were identified among suspects, accused and convicts, among the employees of the department there were many times more - 271 people. By mid-May, the number of detected cases of coronavirus in the FSIN increased to 617 employees and 145 prisoners.
