Foreign Ministry calls on Georgia to stop provocations on the border with Russia

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers it necessary to begin negotiations between Tbilisi and Sukhum and Tskhinval as soon as possible in connection with the increasing incidence of crossing the Russian, Abkhaz and South Ossetian borders from the Georgian side.

The ministry noted that only last month an outfit of Russian border guards detained three Georgian citizens who illegally entered the territory of Abkhazia, RIA Novosti writes. In addition, on June 13, a 24-year-old Georgian man without documents was detained in Dagestan. He had a Vepr hunting carbine with him and 28 rounds of ammunition.

- Despite the rather serious, sometimes provocative nature of such violations and the Russian side’s disposition to resolve such issues as politically and flexibly as possible, in Tbilisi, unfortunately, they are once again trying to arrange a political show out of this, shifting responsibility to others, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

According to diplomats, the problem must be resolved through a mutually beneficial constructive dialogue. They called on the Georgian government to him.

“We expect more vigorous explanatory work from the Georgian authorities with our own population in order to prevent new cases of illegal border crossing”, - the department notes.

The ministry noted the provocative comments of the State Department and the US Embassy in Tbilisi. Diplomats point out that the US government is "barring its Georgian wards and blaming Moscow and Tskhinval".

Let us recall that the president of Abkhazia, Aslan Bzhania, elected in March, proposed reconciliation to Georgia. He stated that he was ready to establish relations with the neighboring country in all areas, without even requiring her to officially recognize the independence of Abkhazia.
