On the morning of July 17, about a hundred migrant workers went on strike at Sheremetyevo Moscow International Airport, refusing to work on repairing of the runway at the passenger terminal B. Construction workers are demanding employers to pay the money they owe for the overtime work.

According to Moskovsky Komsomolets, citing the Baza telegram channel, police and the Russian Guard came to the scene of the incident, several participants in the strike were detained.

It is reported that there were no clashes between protesters and law enforcement officials. Police and Rosgvardeytsy continue to be on duty on the spot, representatives of the management of the company that hired workers arrived there too. Negotiations are ongoing with rebel builders, but so far they have not led to the resumption of work.

It is known that the incident has already attracted the attention of the Investigative Committee. As Rosbalt reports with reference to the press service of the Moscow Interregional Investigation Department for Transport, investigators began checking information about the debts of the construction company to their employees for overtime work.

In early July, the RANEPA presented the results of the survey, from which it follows that during the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, 40% of migrant workers from neighboring countries lost their jobs. At the same time, the proportion of Russians who have become unemployed is 23%.
