The consumer confidence index of Russians in the second quarter of this year fell by 19% compared to the first quarter and turned out to be at minus 30%. In terms of this indicator, Russia was next to Slovenia, Greece, Portugal and Spain.

Vedomosti reported this, citing the Consumer Sentiment Index of the Center for Market Research of the Institute for Statistical Research and Economics of Knowledge of the Higher School of Economics.

Analysts note that in past crises, the index in Russia has declined more strongly. For example, in 2015 - up to -32%, in 2009 - up to -35%, in 1998-1999 - up to -45%. But in the current crisis (-30%) all indicators have collapsed in one quarter. For comparison, in Denmark the consumer confidence index fell to -2%, and in Sweden - to -5%.

In the Russian Federation, during the vulgar crisis episodes, the negative effect was cumulative, the authors of the study say. At the same time, they note that the consumer confidence index lost no more than 14-15% at once.

43% of the respondents said that in the last quarter they felt a deterioration in their financial situation. And only 10% expressed confidence that the situation could improve in the coming year.

Let us remind you that half of Russians cannot “make it up” to the salary. An earlier poll conducted by VTsIOM showed that 52% of Russians are dissatisfied with their standard of living.
