Every second Briton believes in Russian interfering

Almost half of the UK population believes the Kremlin interfered in both the Brexit referendum and the general elections last December. According to a new poll, 49% of those polled believe that Russia influenced the referendum on the country's exit from the European Union.

For the next anniversary of the memorable Brexit vote, British Opinium surveyed more than 2,000 respondents. 49% of those polled believe that Russia influenced the referendum on the country's exit from the European Union, and only 23% of percent disagree.

The poll results were released after long delays and obstacles from the Conservative government of Boris Johnson released a report to the British Parliament, in which the cabinet was sharply criticized for inaction and unwillingness to investigate suspicious inconsistencies in campaigning. Opinium asked fellow citizens if they believed that the Russian authorities had an impact on the results of the referendum on Scottish independence in 2014, the referendum on leaving the EU in 2016, and the results of the elections in 2019.

On all three points, the respondents were more likely to agree that there was Russian government intervention.

40% of respondents believe that Russia influenced the results of the Scottish referendum, their bottom 63% consider themselves supporters of a united Great Britain, and 39% voted for the separation of Scotland.

47% talk about the influence of the Russian authorities on the election results in December 2019. 70% of supporters of Liberal Democrats and 62% of those who voted for Labor are convinced that they were dealing with the "hand of Moscow." But even among the citizens who voted for the Conservatives, 39% versus 33% also believe that the Russian authorities interfered in the elections.
