Fighters of the PMC Wagner detained in Belarus were suspected of preparing terrorist attacks

“The case was opened under the article on the preparation of a terrorist attack”, - writes TASS, citing the words of the Secretary of State of the Security Council Andrey Ravkov.

The detention of Russian mercenaries became known on Wednesday, July 29. They arrived in Minsk on July 25, two days later they settled in one of the sanatoriums near the city. The group was not very alike to the typical Russian tourists: they did not drink, did not have fun and wore camouflage clothes; this attracted attention. In addition to them, about 200 more people arrived in Belarus, who, according to the local police, planned to destabilize the situation in the country on the eve of the elections.

Earlier, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has already accused Russia and Poland of interfering in the internal politics of the state on the eve of the elections. Lukashenko urged local residents not to repeat the Ukrainian Maidan. The Belarusians themselves are demanding fair presidential elections, a series of rallies swept across the country. The presidential elections in Belarus are scheduled for August 9.
