Rospotrebnadzor: 90% of coronavirus particles die in the water within 24 hours

Almost all particles of the coronavirus - 90% - die in water at a room temperature in 24 hours, and 99.9% - within 72 hours, Rospotrebnadzor (Russian Agency for Health and Consumer Rights) reported.

Studies on the viability of COVID-19 in water were carried out at the department's Vector center, RIA Novosti reports.

Scientists have found that the virus cannot multiply in dechlorinated and seawater, but retains its viability. The time of its inactivation depends on the water temperature.

If the water is boiled, then the coronavirus will be completely destroyed. In chlorinated water, the virus loses its viability.

Let us recall that British and Polish doctors have suggested6 that natural reservoirs can act as reservoirs for the pathways of the spread of the new coronavirus infection. However, Sergei Voznesensky, associate professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the RUDN University, pointed out that the danger of getting infected in the river is extremely small.

Previously, scientists found that the coronavirus is weakening and less often transmitted from person to person with each new mutation.
