Deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Sverdlovsk Region Ilya Gaffner, who advised citizens to eat less during the crisis, earned only four kopecks in 2019.

This follows from the data published on the website of the regional parliament.

Deputy Ilya Gaffner declared 0.04 rubles of annual income. He has an apartment with an area of 66.6 sq. m. Three apartments ranging from 80 to 239.2 sq. m are in use by his three minor children.

Ilya Gaffner became famous for advising Russians to "eat less" during a crisis. Gaffner in January 2015, during a United Russia event to monitor prices in stores, said:

“If, roughly speaking, there is not enough money, we must remember that we are all Russians, Russian people, we have gone through the hunger and cold, we just need to think about our health and eat less”.

In 2016, the court declared Gaffner bankrupt at the suit of the Russian Agricultural Bank. In 2018, the Sverdlovsk Arbitration Court terminated the deputy's bankruptcy case and freed him from paying 160 million rubles of the debt. The plaintiff did not agree with this decision and filed an appeal, but the decision was left unchanged, after which the bank sent a cassation appeal. In 2019, the Arbitration Court of the Ural District confirmed the end of the deputy's bankruptcy.
