MRTS will not provide a barge for the completion of the Russian gas pipeline, which has become a real target of US sanctions. The company has never been the owner of Fortuna, but leases it under a bareboat charter agreement for use in other projects, RBC reports, referring to the company's official representative.
According to Marine Traffic, the barge is now in the German port of Rostock. Industry analysts called her one of the candidates for the completion of the Nord Stream-2, which was suspended in December last year due to US sanctions. Recall that after the adoption by Washington of a law threatening secondary sanctions against the owners of the pipeline-laying vessels, the offshore construction of Nord Stream 2 was curtailed by the Swiss-Dutch firm Allseas.
As the ICIS edition wrote, Fortuna and the pipelayer Academician Chersky (Akademik Chersky) were to take part in the completion. In this case, the work was supposed to be completed in 53 days.
Previously, Denmark allowed the continuation of the construction of the gas pipeline in its waters. This happened after Denmark did not receive appeals against the decision of its Energy Agency (DEA) to use anchored vessels for the construction of the gas pipeline by the due date.
