The head of the department Sergey Dankvert told about this in an interview with RBC. In particular, the department proposes to provide for visa liability for carriers and transport drivers. The head of the Rosselkhoznadzor is confident that drivers of vehicles with sanctioned goods should be temporarily banned from entering Russia. According to him, it is practically impossible to close a visa to Russia for foreign drivers detained at the border with the "sanctioned".
Earlier, the department reported that for 7 months of 2020, 1.89 thousand tons of products prohibited for import were destroyed, of which 1.87 thousand tons of vegetable and 23.7 tons of livestock.
Let us recall that the destruction of contraband products from the "sanctioned" countries began in Russia in 2015. The list of countries that fell under the food embargo includes states that initiated or supported anti-Russian sanctions in connection with the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
Initially, the United States, Canada, Australia, Norway were included in the list of countries that fell under the food embargo. Then, products made in Iceland, Albania, Liechtenstein, Ukraine and Montenegro were added to the "sanctions" list. It is prohibited to import dairy, meat and fish products, animal oil and fat, fruits, vegetables, as well as live pigs into the territory of the Russian Federation, with the exception of breeding animals.
The practice of destroying sanctioned food has been repeatedly criticized by the public. The government received proposals not to bulldoze food, but to distribute it for free to citizens living below the poverty line.
