Covid made concessions: scientists have confirmed that his its' mutation is less lethal

Although the coronavirus mutation spreading today is more infectious, it is not so dangerous. Another confirmation about it came from South Asia.

A month and a half ago Novye Izvestia wrote that scientists had studied a new mutation of the coronavirus and found that it was more infectious than the old one, but less lethal. And now a new confirmation of this fact came.

According to Reuter, President of the International Society of Infectious Diseases, Senior Consultant at the National University of Singapore Paul Tambya said that another mutation of the SARS CoV-2 coronavirus made it more infectious, but less fatal.

The scientist referred to a study by the University of Singapore, which claims that the spread of the D614G mutation in Europe, North America and parts of Asia coincided with a drop in deaths from COVID-19 in these countries.

Tambya recalled that most viruses tend to become less dangerous as they mutate. "It is in the best interest of the virus to infect more people, not kill them, because the virus depends on the host for food and habitat".

However, it should be borne in mind that the D614G strain is 10 times more infectious than the original version. However, some experts fear that due to the mutation, vaccines currently being developed may be ineffective.

But, according to Tambya, concerns about the effectiveness of the future vaccine are in vain, since the changes in the virus are minor.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), scientists discovered the mutation back in February, and it spread to Europe and America. The WHO also said there was no evidence that the mutation led to the development of a more severe disease.
