Grodno became the first large Belarusian city, the authorities of which allowed holding rallies in central squares and decided not to punish workers of enterprises who decided to go on strike.

The Grodno executive committee, agreeing with the demands of the headquarters of the ex-presidential candidate of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and trade unions, decided to create a council of public consent of the city. It will include representatives of civil society and executive and legislative bodies.

In addition, the Grodno authorities made it possible to hold mass actions on Lenin and Sovetskaya squares in the city center, organize medical, technical and informational support at rallies. The response from the authorities said that representatives of the democratic community, trade unions and political parties will be provided with the opportunity to speak on the air of the Grodno Plus TV channel.

Also, the authorities of Grodno decided to organize proceedings on all the facts of complaints from citizens about causing harm to health, and release all detainees. Workers who participate in strikes, indicate the city authorities, will not receive administrative penalties.

Note that Grodno is the fifth largest city in Belarus by the number of inhabitants. It is home to 356 thousand people. Workers of the largest industrial enterprise in the city "Grodno Azot" went on strike. Their demands were to release those detained during the protests and recount the results of the presidential elections.

Before that, all workers in Belarus were called upon to go on a nationwide strike until new elections are held in the republic. However, President Alexander Lukashenko ruled out the possibility of repeat elections. According to him, if new elections are allowed, Belarus "will perish as a state".
