Air travel across Russia has fallen in price by almost a half

Major Russian airlines have cut the prices for domestic flights by almost a half. The reason was poor customer demand.

Employees of the business newspaper Vedomosti studied the cost of air tickets from Moscow to 15 major Russian cities and came to the conclusion that prices for September and October flights within the country have significantly decreased compared to similar offers in June this year.

Experts call the current situation atypical, since usually tickets with early booking cost consumers less than travel documents purchased on the eve of departure.

The biggest drop in price was for S7 Airlines flights from the capital to Ufa, the price of which was halved - from 6 to 3 thousand rubles.

"At 40% cheaper tickets Krasnodar (3600 rbl.), Perm (4000 rbl.), Sochi (3000 rbl.) And Novosibirsk (up to 7300 rubles)", - informs Interfax referring to the system of information booking.

The cost of tickets to Yekaterinburg, Kazan, Samara and Krasnoyarsk decreased by 25 to 35%, flights to Omsk, Irkutsk, Volgograd and Rostov-on-Don fell by another 10-20%.

Simultaneously with S7 prices for autumn travel across the country were reduced by Aeroflot and Pobeda.

Experts note that the sharp drop in the volume of passenger air travel this year was due to the coronavirus pandemic. With the onset of the holiday season, the demand for tickets began to grow, but tickets for the fall are selling very poorly, since the financial condition of most Russians was seriously undermined by the coronavirus. And now airlines have to fight for each passenger in "tough price competition".
