Belarusian oppositionists consider Svetlana Tikhanovskaya the winner of the last presidential elections in the country.
Previously, only five of the victims were known, while it is not known whether the death of two of them is directly related to the brutal dispersal of protest actions in the first days after the August 9 elections - one of them was hit by a car, the other was found dead in a city park in Minsk.
In the first days of the thousands of protests that gripped Belarus after the presidential elections held on August 9, the security forces detained several thousand protesters, who were severely beaten after the arrests. But then, after widespread public outcry, the protesters were hardly detained for about a week and a half. The reason for the protests was the announcement of the election results, according to which the long-term head of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko won them again with more than 80% of the vote.
"At least six people were killed, dozens are missing. This is happening in the center of Europe", the Interfax news agency quoted Svetlana Tikhanovskaya as saying. According to her, participants in peaceful protests are intimidated with physical force and the threat of imprisonment.
Earlier, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights talked about four deaths at protests in Belarus in the past two weeks. At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country noted that they did not provide such data to the UN.
Last day, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who found herself in neighboring Lithuania due to the pressure from the Belarusian security forces after the presidential elections, met in Vilnius with US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Bigan, who had arrived there. The meeting discussed the political crisis in Belarus.
