According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, at the Brestsky training ground in the southwestern part of Belarus, Belarusian paratroopers, together with Russian ones, conducted exercises to jointly storm the building.

In the military department, this exercise was called "one of the most difficult", especially since at that time there was a downpour and strong wind.

The exercises became part of the first stage of the Polar Star International Army Competition. It is noted that the reconnaissance paratroopers landed without parachute from helicopters and conducted a training assault, the release of the hostages and the cleaning of the seized building, the Interfax news agency reported.

The international stage of the "Polar Star" competition is held in Belarus from August 23 to September 5, Russia is represented at the competition by paratroopers of the Guards Airborne Forces from the Moscow region. At the same time, the situation in the country itself remains tense. Thousands of protests and strikes are taking place there following the announcement of the official voting results in the August 9 presidential elections. The country's CEC announced another victory for its long-term leader Alexander Lukashenko with over 80% of the vote. Many citizens believe that the election results were falsified - in support of these words, proven facts of violations in some polling stations are cited. A number of foreign countries also refused to recognize the results of the presidential elections in Belarus.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said today that he has formed a reserve of law enforcement officers in order to provide assistance to Belarus if necessary. He specified that Alexander Lukashenko had made such a request to him.
