In early September the leader of the Belarusian opposition, former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, is going to speak via video link at the UN Security Council and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. She intends to ask “everyone to respect the sovereignty of Belarus”.

Dates of Tikhanovskaya's speech have already been scheduled, RIA Novosti reports.

“Her speeches are already planned at the meeting of the UN Security Council on September 4 and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on September 8”, - the press service of the Belarusian opposition leader says.

An invitation to speak at the UN Security Council requires the consent of all its members.

“When asked what kind of help she and Belarus expects from the international community, Svetlana says that we ask everyone to respect the sovereignty of Belarus, act as guarantors of the sovereignty of Belarus and respect the will of the Belarusian people,” the press service writes.

The report indicates that during international meetings Tikhanovskaya says that the protests in defense of the choice of citizens in the republic are exclusively peaceful. The opposition sees the best way out of the crisis in negotiations.

- To achieve negotiations on the transfer of power between the representatives of the authorities and the people is the responsibility of the Belarusians themselves. But we do not refuse international assistance to start them. This is not a geopolitical revolution, this is a political crisis within the country. The people of Belarus want to elect a new leader of the country. And he has the right to do it himself, the former presidential candidate said in a statement.

However, it should be reminded that the aide to the incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko, Nikolai Latyshenok, rejected the possibility of negotiations with the opposition.

According to the CEC of Belarus, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya was able to gain only 10% of the votes in the presidential elections in the republic. The opposition did not recognize the official figures and called them falsified. Lukashenko, who, according to official figures, won 80% of the vote, accused the opposition coordinating council of trying to seize power.
