In Belarus, the political crisis continues, which began immediately after the presidential elections. For the fourth week, thousands of protests and strikes are taking place in the country. On August 30, his assistant for general affairs Nikolai Latyshenok came out to the protesters who had gathered at the residence of Alexander Lukashenko. He hinted at the possibility of certain changes: "It has been said many times, let's resolve everything peacefully. We are making a new constitution". Alexander Lukashenko himself spoke about the possibility of an early constitutional reform. He even noticed features of authoritarianism in the current regime in Belarus.
The unregistered presidential candidate Viktor Babariko, who was arrested on the eve of the elections, also spoke about the need to change the Belarusian constitution. The representative of his headquarters, Mr. Maria Kolesnikova, announced the creation of a new political party "Together", at the same time a video message from Viktor Babariko himself was published, in which he declared the need for constitutional reform. It is not known when the video was recorded, since the politician has been in jail since June 18, - reminds the Kommersant newspaper.
Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who is now in neighboring Lithuania, said that she looks at the initiative of Viktor Babariko to create her own party positively - "in a free democratic country, everyone has the right to do this", however, she disagreed with many other things that were voiced in the video message.
First of all, with the fact that, according to Viktor Babariko, the opposition allegedly lost this election - "everyone knows that this is not so. We won, but they are trying to steal our victory." She does not consider it a primary task to amend the Constitution. "There is no need to change the political agenda by moving to a discussion of constitutional reform. I urge you to hear what the people are saying. First, the demands of citizens, then reforms that are possible only after fair elections," Svetlana Tikhanovskaya said.
She recalled that for the transfer of power and dialogue with her on her idea, the Coordination Council of the Belarusian opposition has already been created, which included thousands of citizens: representatives of different parties and professions. And the main task remains the peaceful transfer of power and the holding of new elections.
Last day, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya expressed concern after the statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin that Russia "creates a reserve of power structures" and is ready to send it to Belarus:
- In Belarus, the peaceful protest of the population against the regime, which is trying to steal votes and usurp power, continues. We demand that all countries of the world respect the sovereignty of our country. And they are extremely concerned about the statement of Mr. Putin that Russia is ready to send OMON to the republic. This would significantly violate the sovereignty of our country and would have grave consequences for the relations between our countries.
