An inter-factional group of European deputies proposed to use the freezing of assets of Russian officials whom Navalny suspects of corruption as a response to the poisoning of the politician.
According to Kommersant, the resolutions of the European Parliament are of a recommendatory nature. Voting on the project will take place on September 17. The authors of the initiative were 11 deputies of the European People's Party, 15 from the Renewing Europe faction, one from the Greens - European Free Alliance faction, three from the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats and 13 deputies from the European Conservatives and Reformists ".
The document says that the proposed sanctions mechanism involves the collection of information and the freezing of European assets of corrupt individuals, whose activities were drawn to the attention of the Anti-Corruption Foundation of Alexey Navalny".
On the eve of the head of the European Commission, ex-Minister of Defense of Germany Ursula von der Leyen said that she considers the poisoning of Alexey Navalny "a typical manifestation of Russia's behavior on the world stage." In addition to the poisoning of Navalny, the head of the European Commission named Russia's relations with Ukraine and Georgia, as well as the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal, as other “typical examples” of Russia's actions.
Meanwhile, the Kremlin continues to deny the involvement of Russian state structures in the poisoning of Navalny with a Novichok-type chemical warfare agent. Despite the fact that the presence in the body of the politician poison Novichok was confirmed by independent laboratories in Germany, France and Sweden, high-ranking Russian officials insist that Russian doctors "did not find poison" in Navalny's body. Almost a month has passed since the poisoning, but a criminal case on the fact of an attempt on the life of an oppositionist in Russia has not yet been initiated.
While the Russian security forces did not present any visible results of their work on the search for criminals, Navalny's associates published a video shedding light on where and how the politician could have been poisoned.
