- The total number of mutations that collectively identified in the sequenced genomes of the virus SARS-CoV-2, is many thousands, but only a single one fixed and stably inherited, - RIA Novosti leads the message of the department.
All 22 mutations that are currently counted were identified in the period from January to March this year.
About 99% of samples in Russia have a stable pair of mutations, identified in China at the end of January, then in Australia, and at the end of February in most Western European countries. In total, this mutation accounts for 93% of samples worldwide.
"A detailed comparison of the genomes of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in Russia and foreign countries confirms that it is the variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus strains circulating in Western Europe, which for the most part already had the P314L mutation (ORF1b gene) and D614G ( gene S), in March and April 2020 were massively imported to Russia", - indicated in Rospotrebnadzor.
Let us recall that last month it was said that the new covid mutation was less lethal than the one that came from South Asia. Scientists discovered the mutation back in February, and it has spread to Europe and America. Earlier, scientists who studied more than two hundred mutations of the coronavirus came to the conclusion that with each new mutation, the virus weakens. At the same time, at the end of the summer in Vietnam, they announced that the new strain of covid identified in the country was three times more infectious than the previous one.
