Russian political scientist Valery Solovey announced his intention to leave the profession of a political scientist for politics. According to him, the country's future will be decided in the next 1.5 years, and he intends to participate in this.

“I have been moving in this direction for a long time, but decided to change the profile of my activity right now, since in the coming years Russia will need precisely political figures. In my opinion, the fate of the country will be decided in the next 1.5 years, and you need to be in the area that will be responsible for the fulfillment of this fate, that is, in politics”, - Solovey said in an interview with Echo Moskvy radio.

On Saturday in Moscow, a Russian political scientist organized an action of solidarity with protesters in Khabarovsk in support of the poisoned Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and other political prisoners. During this action, the political scientist was detained. He was released three hours later and ordered to appear at the police station on September 23rd.

Solovey also commented on his participation in this action. According to him, his arrest was a logical outcome. He stressed that for Moscow his event was the largest in recent years. According to his estimates, about a thousand people took part in the action. Solovey suggests that now he will be fined for participating in the action, or arrested for 10 days, but said that neither fines nor arrest would stop him. He does not intend to create a separate political party, but plans to organize “protest walks” or coordinated rallies in Moscow. To organize them, he has already created two channels in Telegram.

Earlier, the press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov expressed the hope that in 2024 Russia would not repeat the Belarusian scenario with peaceful protests against the results of the presidential elections and brutal suppression of them by the security forces. He noted that Russia has "its own political culture", therefore "political life in the country will develop according to its own scenario".
