International insurers refused to cooperate with Nord Stream 2

Another difficulty arose on the way of completing the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. The Association of International Shipowners Insurers warned its members about the dangers of working with its operator in connection with the US sanctions.

The corresponding circular has been published on the association's website.

"This circular expresses concern about the position of the United States on strengthening the sanctions provisions on the construction of the Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream pipelines, as well as those who provide ships and services for any of these projects", - the association said...

The text also states that members of the association should remember that "there should be no insurance coverage for ships that are involved in illegal activities or activities that put the club in danger of violating sanctions".

The club does not intend to provide insurance coverage for activities related to the Nord Stream 2 and Turk Streram projects, in light of the direct sanctions threat to insurers posed by the US laws on Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions and Protecting Europe's Energy Security.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, we recall, announced the beginning of work on the creation of a coalition in order to prevent the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project.

In mid-September, Berlin offered Washington a deal to build two harbors for the export of US liquefied gas, on condition that the country stops pursuing the SP-2 sanctions.

Let us recall that the United States has been hindering the construction of the gas pipeline for several years, believing that after its completion, Europe will be dependent on Russian gas. The first US sanctions against this project forced some companies to abandon the construction of the gas pipeline.
