The United States proposed sanctions against the Russian authorities and demanded a financial report from Putin

US congressmen believe that sanctions should be imposed against "those involved in gross violations of international law", including the "recent poisoning" of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny. Senators have proposed an asset freeze and visa denial.

This is stated in a statement published on the Internet portal of Democratic Senator Chris Koons (pictured).

The names of the Russian officials who, according to the document, should fall under the sanctions, are not indicated.

In addition, the document suggests that the US authorities must determine whether the Kremlin has violated American laws prohibiting the use of chemical and biological weapons, as well as provide a report on the financial affairs of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his "inner circle".

The senators demanded to convince Germany to abandon the project to build the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.

Earlier, US Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan spoke about the negative impact of Moscow's behavior in the situation with the investigation of Navalny's poisoning on international relations.

“Unfortunately, the ways to interact and the opportunities to communicate are being reduced by Russian behavior”, Sullivan warned.

Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov, in turn, confirmed the "crisis" nature of relations between the two countries and announced Moscow's readiness to work on improving them.

Let us recall that Moscow has repeatedly denied its involvement in the poisoning of the oppositionist. On September 23, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that there was no evidence of Russian involvement in the situation with Navalny.
