On September 27, security officials detained hundreds of participants in protest rallies and marches in Minsk, Mogilyov, Grodno, Vitebsk, Brest, Soligorsk, Molodechno, Zhodino, Orsha and in Baranovichi. It is reported by Dozhd with reference to the calculations of the human rights center Vesna.
Popular demonstrations in Belarus intensified after September 23, when the head of state Alexander Lukashenko held a secret inauguration.
This ceremony was not announced anywhere in advance, representatives of foreign states were not invited to it, and TV channels controlled by Lukashenko did not broadcast live, announcing the fact of Lukashenko's assumption of office only after the ceremony.
Many EU countries and the United States have announced that they do not recognize Lukashenko as the legitimately elected president of the republic.
Outraged by Lukashenko's secret assumption of office, residents of the country began to go out to mass protests. Many wore crowns on their heads with the inscription: "Then I am also the president", emphasizing their attitude to what is happening.
On September 26, a "women's march" was held in Minsk, the participants of which demanded Lukashenko's resignation and new fair elections. Masked security officials detained several of its participants.
All over the country, administrative protocols are drawn up against civic activists, fined large sums of money, arrested and beaten during detention. Even underage children become victims of beatings, for whose parents the security forces also draw up protocols for appearing at unauthorized processions.
And on September 27 in many cities of the country an action called "people's inauguration" took place. Its participants took to the streets with portraits of Lukashenko's rival in the elections, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, whom many call the real winner of the presidential race that ended on August 9.
