The SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus can transform into a dozen different forms in order to enter the human body, British scientists from the Francis Crick Institute have found. They believe that the mechanism of penetration of the coronavirus is more complex than HIV.

FoxNews reports.

During the experiment, the researchers learned that the spines of the coronavirus can change and become even more tenacious, which allows them to better bind to the ACE2 protein located on the cell surface and penetrate the body.

"This is a very complex process of interconnection of the receptors of the virus and a healthy cell, compared to most viral proteins. Neither flu nor HIV has such a complex mechanism of entry", - said the author of the study, a researcher at the university laboratory Donald Benton.

Moreover, these changes in the thorns occur very quickly, scientists have established. In laboratory conditions, the transformation took less than a minute. Experts, however, tend to believe that in real life the spikes will take longer to change.

Let us recall that earlier Rospotrebnadzor spoke about the "Russian" mutations of the coronavirus. In August, it was said that the new covid mutation was less lethal than the one that came from South Asia. Scientists discovered it in February, later it spread to Europe and America.

Also, scientists who studied more than two hundred mutations of the coronavirus came to the conclusion that with each new mutation, the virus weakens. At the same time, at the end of the summer in Vietnam, they announced that the new strain of covid identified in the country was three times more infectious than the previous one.
