Protests forced Kyrgyz Central Election Commission to cancel election results

According to Dozhd / Rain, the Central Election Commission of the republic adopted the decision to cancel the election results, which were won by the pro-government parties, under pressure from the opposition, which began protest actions in Bishkek and other cities of the country on October 5.

“On Tuesday night, protesters seized the White House in Bishkek and released former President Almazbek Atambayev from jail. They also managed to capture the capital's mayor's office”, - the message says.

According to Interfax, the mayor of Bishkek, Aziz Surakmatov, filed a letter of resignation of his own free will against the background of popular unrest. This happened after about 30 supporters of opposition parties burst into the mayor's office at night, who proclaimed Zhooshbek Koenaliev as the “people's mayor”.

The protesters issued a statement that "after the popular revolution on October 6, a people's mayor was elected in Bishkek until the appointment of a new mayor in accordance with the law".

Clashes between supporters and opponents of the current government in Bishkek began on Monday, October 5, after the announcement of the preliminary results of the parliamentary elections in Kyrgyzstan. Representatives of a number of opposition parties said they did not recognize the election results due to massive electoral fraud.

Determined protesters took to the streets demanding that the vote be canceled and a re-run be called. During the dispersal of the protesters using water cannons, tear gas and stun grenades, more than 100 people were injured. In total, according to the Ministry of Health, as a result of the riots in Bishkek, one person died, another 590 were injured.
