World Bank experts have made a forecast of how the quarantine introduced due to the coronavirus will affect the financial well-being of today's students transferred to distance learning.

According to World Bank experts who presented the report COVID-19 and Human Capital, the COVID-19 quarantine introduced in Russian schools may negatively affect the future income of today's children when they become adults.

"Due to the closure of Russian schools in quarantine in connection with the pandemic, students will lose a little more than a third of the regular school year, which will lead to a deterioration in their results in the PISA test (an international program for assessing educational achievements of students)", - quotes the conclusions of the authors of the report by Radio Liberty.

According to American researchers, missing four months of school leads to a loss of 2.5 percent of income per year throughout the life of the employee.

“Such estimates can be extrapolated to the Russian context”, - experts say.

Earlier it was reported that quarantine for coronavirus in Russian schools was introduced in March this year. The children went on spring break, but due to the pandemic they could not return to full-time classes until the very end of the school year. Even the passing of the Unified State Exam (USE) had to be postponed to July.

From September 1, lessons in most Russian schools resumed, but by the beginning of October, 3% of educational institutions were quarantined again due to an increase in the incidence of coronavirus and seasonal flu.

The most difficult situation has developed in Moscow, which ranks first in the country in terms of the number of cases. To curb the spread of the infection, from October 5, all schools in the capital closed for an early two-week vacation. If the situation with the number of coronavirusum infections does not improve, the authorities do not exclude the possibility of introducing a second lockdown and transferring schools to remote control.

Researchers warn that spring self-isolation and distance learning caused stress in 84% of children. According to the Ministry of Health, 42 percent of schoolchildren developed depressive conditions, almost the same number complained of asthenia. Meanwhile, in a number of universities, a movement is growing to bring about the return of distance learning during a pandemic in order to save human lives.

The new coronavirus infection, first reported in China at the end of 2019, spread worldwide in March 2020. To date, more than 37 million people have been infected with the infection, over a million have died. Over the past day, over 347 thousand new cases of coronavirus have been identified in the world.

In Russia, a record number of cases have been recorded for three days in a row. The daily increase in detected cases of COVID-19 reached 13,634 people. Most of these new cases of COVID-19 were detected in Moscow - 4395. Over the past day, 125 people have died in Russia with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in our country, 1,298,718 citizens have been infected with the coronavirus, of which 22,597 have died.
