As Interfax reports with the reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus, a total of 25 protest actions with a total of 11,000 people roamed across the country over the weekend.
"Compared to previous Sunday rallies, the number of protesters has decreased, but the aggressiveness of the crowd, in which there were representatives of various radicalized groups, has increased", - the news agency quoted the ministry as saying.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, some of the protesters came out with bats, stones and blinding devices. They damaged road infrastructure and built barricades.
“In the area of the stele“ Minsk - Hero City ”a separate group of women put up active opposition”, - the Interior Ministry said.
The department admitted that the security forces used force and special means against the protesters. According to eyewitnesses, this time the police acted very harshly, using water cannons and stun grenades.
As human rights activists note, over 600 people were detained at protest actions in Belarusian cities the day before, including about 40 media workers.
Massive street actions in the republic have been taking place since August 9. They were a reaction to falsifications in the course of the presidential elections, in which the CEC awarded long-term head of state Alexander Lukashenko the victory. The citizens of the country, outraged by the massive falsifications, demanded a recount and Lukashenko's resignation. However, he refused to voluntarily leave his post, responding to the protesters with police terror and an unprecedented level of violence against the detainees.
Against the background of numerous violations of human rights in Belarus, European countries have imposed sanctions against high-ranking Belarusian officials, security officials and propagandists.
