The US accused the Russians of trying to disrupt the Olympics in South Korea

A spokesman for the American department also said that the six accused are "current and former employees of the GRU" who, moreover, allegedly disabled computers at the Olympics in South Korea.

In Washington, it was clarified that the Russians managed to do this by "launching a virus program" that deleted data from thousands of computers and disabled them. Also, the US Department of Justice believes that the Russians "took steps so that the responsibility for the virus attack to destroy the Olympics was assigned to North Korea," but "they did not succeed".

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo commented on the Russian accusation, saying that Moscow is dismissive of public safety and international stability in cyberspace.

“Such cyber activities show a complete disregard for public safety and international stability. Russia, which presents itself as a champion of stability in cyberspace, is in fact one of the biggest troublemakers on the global Internet. We call on Russia to end this irresponsible behavior", - Pompeo said.

Earlier, the United States accused two intelligence officers "known as the GRU" for publishing false stories about the coronavirus pandemic.
