Only a quarter of Russians trust TV

Residents of the capital trust television least of all - only every fifth Muscovite surveyed believes everything that is said on TV. Residents of other million-plus cities have almost the same level of trust in television as a source of information. Among residents of large cities, only 21% of Russians surveyed trust television, as well as only 15% of students, according to research data from the consulting company Deloitte.

The residents of the North Caucasus Federal District trust television most of all. Among the surveyed Russians living in this territory, 28% of the surveyed residents of the North Caucasus say that they trust television as a source of information. A high level of trust in television (36% each) is also noted among pensioners and military personnel.

The highest level of confidence among Russians in information obtained from official sources on the Internet. These include both the portals of news publications and the official websites of Russian departments. 39% of Russians surveyed said they trust these sources of information. At the same time, since 2016, the level of trust in these sources has grown by 4 percentage points.

16% of Russians surveyed tend to trust news from social networks. The level of trust in this source of information has also grown over the past five years. At the same time, it is noteworthy that most often residents of small towns with a population of up to 500 thousand people trust information from social networks. Another 8% of respondents stated that they only trust the information they received from their friends and acquaintances. The percentage of those who trust this information source has not changed in recent years. Radio and newspapers indicated only 3% of Russians surveyed as a source of news.
