Lukashenko proposed to form "people's squads" from former military

“Pay attention to how many appeals come from the former military, Afghans. How many men, but what are there men, how many women say: take us to the squads, we can do a lot. Why not attract former servicemen to our detachments and give them weapons? They can help us a lot, ”Lukashenko said, adding that every Belarusian involved in the squad should feel that he stood up to protect his family and homeland.

All the security forces fled, there was no one to defend the country. Who took responsibility there? People's squads. They pulled up the fleeing militiamen, the special services pulled up the military, and within 24 hours the riots were stopped”, - the local newspaper Belta quotes the president.

Protests in Belarus have been going on for the third month since the August 9 presidential elections. Residents do not agree with the voting results. Earlier, the Belarusian opposition announced an ultimatum to Lukashenko - until October 25, he had to voluntarily resign from power and release all political prisoners.
