State Duma deputy, leader of the "Fair Russia" party Sergey Mironov proposed to fine officials from 30 thousand to 50 thousand rubles for unlawful refusal to provide information at the request of the media.

According to Sergey Mironov, the corresponding bill has already been submitted to the State Duma:

- The increase in penalties will increase the role of the media, will contribute to the development of a democratic society and public institutions in the country, - said the leader of Fair Russia. - The current legislation provides for rather modest sanctions in this regard. If an official ignores an official request from the media, then he can get off with a fine of 5,000 to 10,000 rubles. Agree, for many civil servants this is not so much money. They easily commit to such a violation, so the amount of the fine must be increased.

Sergey Mironov added that his legislative initiative was developed in cooperation with the Union of Journalists of Russia, after online communication with the leadership of this public organization.

The bill proposed by Sergei Mironov contains another important innovation. For unlawful refusal to provide information, for failure to prepare a response, the provision of deliberately false information at the request of citizens or lawyers of officials is proposed to be fined in amounts ranging from five thousand to ten thousand rubles.

The leader of A Just Russia hopes for the support of his colleagues in the State Duma from other factions. If the law is adopted, then officials will think more than once before "kick-ass" those who come to their reception, and those who come will not have to go through the seven circles of hell to get the information they need.

The current article 5.39 of the Administrative Code allows officials to be punished for illegal refusal to provide information, but no more than a fine of 5,000 rubles.
