The Russian Defense Ministry reported that from 6:00 Moscow time, it began to deploy peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenia began to withdraw its troops from the territory.

"RF ready to deploy peacekeeping forces in the zone of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in parallel with the withdrawal of Armenian armed forces", - informed the Interfax agency.

Russia will send 1960 peacekeepers to Karabakh, as well as 470 pieces of equipment. They will fly on Il-76 military transport aircraft from the Ulyanovsk airfield. The core of the contingent is the 15th separate motorized rifle brigade of the Central Military District, stationed in the Samara region. Note that the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov previously commented on the prospect of bringing Russian peacekeepers into Nagorno-Karabakh. According to him, the Kremlin can take such a step only with the consent of both Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Let us recall that on November 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed an agreement on the cessation of hostilities in the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. Aliyev promised Karabakh a certain level of self-government, including cultural autonomy for Armenians.

The day before, the Azerbaijani side announced that it had taken control of the former capital of the Karabakh Khanate, Shushi. This city is of key importance today.

The conflict in Karabakh escalated on September 27.
