US President Donald Trump dismissed Pentagon chief Mark Esper. In his place was appointed head of the National Center for Combating Terrorism Christopher Miller.

The dismissal of the head of the US defense department became known on the evening of November 9. The President of the United States commented on information about the personnel reshuffle in the key department and the appointment of Miller on social networks.

“Chris will do great! Mark Esper has been removed. I would like to thank him for his service", - RIA Novosti quotes Trump's statement in the Twitter microblog.

As the news agency notes, recently information about the possible imminent resignation of Esper has been repeatedly discussed in the media. It is possible that at the beginning of next year, the department will face new reshuffles associated with the arrival in the White House of the Democrat Joseph Biden, who won the presidential election on November 3.

Biden has already announced that he intends to cancel a number of decrees issued by Trump immediately after taking office. In particular, Biden plans to return the United States to the Paris climate agreement, as well as cancel the country's withdrawal from the WHO World Health Organization. In addition, Biden intends to lift the ban on entry from Muslim countries and restore a program that will allow people illegally brought to the United States as children to stay in the country.

According to the 20th Amendment to the US Constitution, the newly elected president takes office on January 20.
