The Ministry of Health warned against taking antibiotics for covid tretment

He pointed out the danger that could threaten patients in the future with such therapy.

"Antibacterial drugs are not active against viruses, including against the causative agent of COVID-19 - the new coronavirus SARS-Cov-2, therefore COVID-19, like any other viral infection, is not an indication for the use of antibiotics", - Interfax cites Roman Kozlov's words.

The microbiologist is convinced that the current practice will cause a significant increase in resistance to antimicrobial drugs and entail serious adverse consequences.

“Unreasonable antibiotic therapy leads to a number of undesirable phenomena that can significantly worsen the patient's condition, and sometimes lead to life-threatening consequences”, - said Kozlov.

Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, chief freelance clinical pharmacologist of the Ministry of Health of the Khabarovsk Territory Salavat Suleymanov also warned against taking antibiotics for coronavirus without a doctor's prescription.

"Antibiotics are not first-line drugs - they are prescribed only for moderate to severe patients . But psychology works this way that people started buying them. It is necessary to convey reliable information to people, to minimize the excitement, to talk about not rushing to pharmacies - not because you feel sorry for these antibiotics, but because they can only be used as prescribed by a doctor. Now the use of antibiotics is many times greater than the real need", - emphasized Salavat Suleimanov in an interview with "Arguments of the week".

Also, the director of the Russian research anti-plague institute "Microbe" Vladimir Kutyrev advised Russians not to take antibiotics for coronavirus without a doctor's recommendation. He explained that the use of antibiotics creates "soil for any pathogens to enter the body more easily". Also, pathogens are formed that are resistant to such drugs.
