The investigation in the Nizhny Novgorod region refused to initiate a criminal case on bringing the journalist Irina Slavina to suicide.

The decision to refuse to initiate a case on the death of Slavina "due to the absence of a crime event" was made by Vladimir Karpukhin, an investigator for particularly important cases of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

According to Kommersant, the refusal was made on November 2 - a month after the editor-in-chief of the Koza.press information portal Irina Slavina committed an act of self-immolation on October 2 at the building of the local department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. However, the journalist's family was able to obtain documents from the IC only on November 13.

The investigator said that the materials of the check “do not see objective data” that could confirm the corpus delicti of “incitement to suicide” or “inducement” to it. The relatives and friends of the deceased stated that the actions of the authorities and law enforcement agencies forced the journalist to self-immolate.

"The document states that the search on October 1 in Slavina's apartment, which was carried out in the case of an 'undesirable organization', took place 'with the correct behavior of the participants", - notes The Insider.

The conclusions of the investigation about the “correctness” of the security forces are contradicted by the data of Slavina, which she published on the social network on the eve of her death: “Today at 6:00 am 12 people entered my apartment with a gas cutter and a crowbar... I, being naked, was already dressing under the supervision of a lady I did not know... They didn't give me a call.

After the death of Irina Slavina, materials of a posthumous psychiatric examination appeared in the documents of the investigation, where there is a phrase that the deceased journalist "with a high degree of probability" suffered from "mixed personality disorder".

Before her death, Slavina wrote on her Facebook page: "I ask you to blame the Russian Federation for my death." Relatives of the deceased believe that the reason for the act of despair was the search that took place the day before in a criminal case on cooperation with the organization “Open Russia” undesirable in the Russian Federation, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, in which Irina Slavina was a witness. Despite the fact that she was not a suspect or an accused, nine operatives came to her house with the participation of two attesting witnesses. They searched and confiscated all office equipment and many documents from Slavina.

Lawyer Alexander Karavayev, who represents the interests of Irina Slavina's husband and children, expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the investigation into the death of the journalist is being carried out by the same ICR that initiated the search of Irina's house.

“The same investigator finds out whether he or his subordinates violated any norms of law in relation to Slavina. Therefore, the relatives insist on the transfer of materials to the central office of the ICR", - Kommersant notes.

According to human rights activists, an unhealthy situation of persecution of dissidents has developed in Russia, which is carried out by the forces of the state-repressive apparatus. After the death of the journalist, the “Law of Irina Slavina” was introduced to the State Duma, designed to stop the persecution of journalists, human rights defenders, civil activists and NGO workers for their honest work.
