The US Senate voted to pass the "Rodchenkov Act" - the anti-doping law. Under this law, it will criminalize schemes that systematically violate anti-doping rules.

The law will be applied extraterritorially.

"USADA (United States Anti-Doping Agency) thanks all those who collaborated in the creation and adoption of the 2019 anti-doping "Rodchenkov Act", which took place today in the US Senate without resistance... The law sets penalties for... doping scams that rob athletes, citizens and business", - Kommersant quotes the text of the message USADA.

The Act provides for the possibility of prosecution by the United States of any person suspected of involvement in a doping conspiracy at competitions with the participation of athletes from that country. The law applies to competitions held under the rules of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Let us remind you that the "Rodchenkov Act", which presupposes the criminalization of doping violations, was adopted by the House of Representatives of the US Congress in October last year. The law provides for fines of up to $ 1 million and imprisonment of up to ten years for those involved in schemes aimed at influencing international sporting events through doping. In addition, the document assumes the protection of whistleblowers and compensation for victims.

The law is named after the ex-head of the Moscow Anti-Doping Laboratory, WADA informant Grigory Rodchenkov (pictured). It was on his testimony that the report of the independent WADA expert Richard McLaren was based. On the basis of the information received, the Russian team was forced to compete at the Olympics in Korean Pyeongchang under a neutral flag and in an incomplete composition.

Rodchenkov also talked about the widespread use of doping in the USSR in the 1980s.
