According to Navalny, only in this case the restrictions imposed by the EU will be sensitive for the Kremlin.
As reported by the Dozhd TV channel, Navalny made an appeal for the imposition of sanctions against Russian oligarchs during a debate in the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs.
"Navalny noted that he sees no reason to impose sanctions against those who are unable to travel to Europe and do not have assets there, for example, against 'Russian generals'", - the message says.
According to the politician, the reason for the criminal actions of people who poison, kill and falsify elections lies in their thirst for profit.
“The answer is very simple - money. EU sanctions should target money. And Russian oligarchs, not only old, but also new, including those from Putin's entourage, should become the target of sanctions”, - Navalny said.
He told MEPs that as long as "Usmanov's most expensive yachts are in Barcelona or Monaco, no one in Russia or the Kremlin will take European sanctions seriously". Point economic sanctions against oligarchs, according to Navalny, will be supported by 99% of Russian citizens who have nothing to do with the “bunch of criminals” who made their way to the heights of power in Russia.
After it became known that the opposition politician Alexei Navalny had been poisoned with a chemical warfare agent, the European Union imposed sanctions on six Russians, including the deputy head of the Russian presidential administration Sergei Kirienko, FSB head Alexander Bortnikov and two deputies Sergey Shoigu... The EU leadership explained its actions by the fact that the poisoning of the main critic of the Kremlin, apparently, was organized with the approval of the presidential administration and with the support of the FSB.
