Tortured with jokes: why the Austrian village changed its ancient name

The inhabitants of the Austrian village endured endless visits from the Americans and the British for a long time, but in the end they could not stand it anymore.

A popular Moscow blogger Natasha Kiselyova told in her publication a funny story about why the inhabitants of one Austrian village decided to change its name:

"The Austrian village of Fucking (33 km from Salzburg) will change its name to Fugging due to the influx of tourists and tons of posts on the social networks Fucking Austria. The decision will enter into force on January 1, 2021.

In general, their name reads like Fucking, but the English transcription and translation are merciless. The village was first mentioned around 1070, according to local legend, the settlement was founded by a Bavarian nobleman named Foucault in the 4th century. The ending -ing in German is an ancient suffix denoting belonging to the root word, that is, Fucking is Foucault's domain. Like Ivanovo or, there, some Tretyakovo - this is Tretyakov's estate.

And so the locals lived for many, many centuries, went to Salzburg to visit and everything was cool with them until the Second World War. British and American soldiers based in neighboring Salzburg accidentally saw the name sign. And in the end, whole platoons began to come to the village to take pictures next to the signs, taking different (not very decent) poses. The locals were confused and didn't understand what was happening until the soldiers explained to them what their name meant in English".
