According to the FSB Public Relations Center, the detainees participated in the 1999 attack on servicemen near the village of Chervlennaya, Shelkovsky District, Chechnya. As a result of the armed raid, 15 people were killed and 28 were injured. Where exactly the suspects were detained, the special services did not specify.
“The men were detained in a criminal case under Art. 209 ("Banditry"), 279 ("Armed mutiny"), 317 ("Encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer") of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation", - Kommersant reports.
Given the particular gravity of the crimes committed, at the request of the investigation, both detainees were detained by a court decision. Now investigators are checking both for involvement in other crimes.
An attack by members of armed bandit formations on servicemen of military unit 34605 of the Russian Ministry of Defense near the village of Chervlennaya, Shelkovsky district of Chechnya, occurred on October 4, 1999. As a result of the massive shelling, 15 soldiers became victims of the militants' raid, and 28 were injured. The search for the attackers has been going on for many years.
As RBC clarifies, in January 2019, the Supreme Court of Chechnya sentenced a member of Basayev's gang, Ruslan Batayev, to 14.5 years in prison. According to the investigation, Bataev voluntarily joined a criminal group that operated in Chechnya, after which he took part in clashes with the Russian military, including in the battles near the village of Chervlennaya.
