The head of "Vector" predicted that the coronavirus pandemic will end in 2021

Speaking at the Science Bar Hopping online festival, Maksyutov said that as soon as the population of the planet has sufficient collective immunity against coronavirus due to mass vaccination, the pandemic will recede. However, it is impossible to say that the SARS-CoV-2 virus will at some point disappear "by magic".

“The virus will persist, but the pandemic itself will, of course, go away. I am sure that in 2021”, - TASS quoted Maksyutov as saying.

In his opinion, in July 2021, mass events like the Science Bar Hopping festival can be held offline.

According to scientists, collective immunity can be considered sufficient when more than half of the population has acquired antibodies to coronavirus.

Now in Russia, two vaccines are registered to fight the infection. One of them was developed in the center. Gamalei, the second - in the center "Vector". In addition to local pharmaceutical companies, South Korea and Belarus have already announced their readiness to produce Russian vaccines against coronavirus. It is expected that, first of all, doctors, teachers and representatives of other professions, whose work is connected with constant contact with people, will be able to give anti-coronavirus vaccinations.

According to the Stopkoronavirus portal, more than 62.2 million people have been infected since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and over 1.4 million have died. In Russia, 2,269,316 cases of infection were registered, 39,527 patients died.
