The head of the Russian Ministry of Health, Mikhail Murashko, expressed concern about the problematic situation with the beds in infectious diseases hospitals in the Kaliningrad region and St. Petersburg.

According to Murashko, today in 17 regions of Russia the reserve of coronavirus beds is less than 5%. In total, 276 thousand beds for patients with COVID-19 have been deployed in the country. Every fifth of them is free, but the provision in the regions differs.

“The Kaliningrad region and St. Petersburg are of the greatest concern”, - Kommersant quoted the minister's words.

According to the Ministry of Health, 79% of patients infected with coronavirus are treated on an outpatient basis, and 217 thousand patients with coronavirus infection and 16 thousand with community-acquired pneumonia are in hospitals. The number of seriously ill patients in intensive care is growing. But there is no shortage of intensive care wards, according to Murashko, yet.

As for antiviral drugs, Favipiravir remains the most scarce in the country, there are problems with anticoagulants. To compensate for the acute shortage of personnel in hospitals, 50,000 medical students have been sent to the "red zones" to fight the coronavirus. According to the head of the Ministry of Health, the regions are now preparing to receive the coronavirus vaccine and the start of the vaccination campaign.

In the past day, a record number of patients since the beginning of the pandemic died in Russia - 569 patients with coronavirus, the daily increase in diseases - 26402.Since March, 2,322,056 patients have been diagnosed with COVID-19. Of these, 40,464 died.
