The adopted defense budget provides for sanctions against companies providing insurance and certified services that are required to complete construction. In addition, the restrictions apply to companies providing services for the modernization or installation of welding equipment on ships involved in the construction of the pipeline.
At the same time, the document specifies that the US President may waive sanctions against a particular person based on national interests.
Note that the budget includes the requirement to consult with a number of states when imposing sanctions, including the UK, Switzerland, Norway and the EU countries.
We will remind that earlier the media wrote that Germany has found a way to bypass the American sanctions imposed on the "NS-2". So, in Germany they decided to create a special fund aimed at climate change, which in order to circumvent the restrictions will define the gas project as "the most important for the protection of the environment." If the plan is implemented, then German companies that may fall under US sanctions will be able to provide services to Russia through this fund and its enterprise. At the same time, technically, the company will not interact with Nord Stream 2, and therefore restrictive measures will not affect it.
Let us that the US has repeatedly opposed the construction of Nord Stream 2, allegedly fearing for the energy dependence of Europe on the Russian Federation. Washington imposed the first sanctions a year ago against companies laying pipes. Then the construction was under threat, as the main contractor - the Swiss company Allseas - refused to cooperate. Gazprom decided to complete the construction of the pipeline on its own.
