The first generation vaccine, which has begun to be introduced in a number of countries, will not be able to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus infection.

Scientists from the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS) made a report on the degree of effectiveness of the first vaccines against coronavirus.

"New evidence suggests that the 'first generation' vaccines undergoing trials are likely to effectively prevent SARS-CoV-2-related diseases, but it is unlikely that they will prevent infection with the virus", - RIA Novosti quoted the text of the report as saying.

Scientists believe that the first generation of vaccines for COVID-19 will likely not have a significant impact on the rate of transmission of the virus.

In addition to mass vaccination, the spread of infection can be resisted only if a whole range of measures are observed. According to doctors, it should include mass testing, wearing masks, maintaining isolation and social distance, as well as tracing contacts with the infected.

The Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences considers it unlikely that one "magic cure" can return the world to what was considered normal before the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, doctors hope that the emergence of a vaccine and new effective treatments for the disease will reduce the number of deaths caused by coronavirus, as well as reduce the number of severe cases of the disease that require mandatory hospitalization of patients.

Scientists stressed that the vaccination process will take at least a year. If, with the start of the vaccination campaign, people lose their vigilance and begin to neglect protective measures, then the situation threatens to spiral out of control again.

According to Johns Hopkins University , since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, which was announced by the World Health Organization on March 11, over 72 million people have become infected with the infection. More than 1.6 million of them died. Most infections were recorded in the USA, India, Brazil, Russia and France.
