Previously, more than a block of cigarettes - 10 packs or 200 pieces could not be carried duty-free only when crossing Russian borders, but now this rule will soon spread within the country, when crossing regional borders.

"State Duma at the plenary session on December 16, it adopted a law establishing the maximum volume of tobacco products for free movement across the territory of Russia by individuals", - RIA Novosti reports.

The authors of the bill believe that the uncontrolled turnover of tobacco products has become a threat to the country's economic interests, and the growth in illegal trade leads to a reduction in budget revenues at all levels.

Earlier, to counteract illegal trade in Russia, a similar ban was already introduced for alcoholic beverages, including administrative liability. Now, in Russia, the movement of tobacco products in the amount of more than 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars (cigarillos), or 250 grams of tobacco, as well as assorted tobacco products with a total weight of no more than 250 grams per person will be prohibited.
